Did I miss something? Haldex question -- because I don't think I'm *that* stoopid.

So... I was just reading about the new Borg-Warner AWD system that's going to be in the Sebring and the Avenger (currently, it's in the Pacifica).

Part of it reads, 'ITM 3e is the first all wheel-drivery to reduce power to the rear wheels at highway speeds to improve fuel economy'.

If I recall correctly, Haldex does exactly the same thing.

Umm... WTF?

Default ummmm>

i think this does the opposite that haldex does, essentially AWD all the time till you hit the highway. haldex is opposite

I think Quattro is better. FWD unless you need AWD. Better mileage all the time

Default I don't follow... Haldex is primarily FWD, but transfers power when there's slippage...

And Haldex cars essentially become FWD on the freeway, which is a benefit in both fuel economy and drivetrain loss.

I dunno that I understood your post at all -- even with the small clarification...

Default So... Your take is that this B-W AWD system is always AWD until it disengages on the highway?

I guess that makes sense...

Default This other system starts AWD and shifts to FWD as needed, whereas Haldex starts FWD and shifts to

AWD as needed.

The difference is obvious to anyone versed in marketing-speak.
