Default Manual transmission + ESP + snow and ice = Weird.

I was pulling into a snow/ice covered parking spot (@ 2 MPH), and while I was working the throttle and clutch, the ESP was clamping down on all four wheels to keep them from spinning. So I nearly stalled the car in an effort to move it forward five feet. If not for the ESP Off button, I would have had to back out and find another spot! With ESP off, I could use a little wheelspin to find the traction I needed.

I wish the ESP would let up at low, low speeds so that you do not literally stall out on slippery surfaces.

Default FYI

ESP only acts on the front wheels.

and it shouldnt do anything at 2mph, your accelerometer might be in trouble...

Default Your owner's manual tells you to switch it off when manuevering in snow.

Mainly for when you get stuck, but your situation was similar.

Default 2mph ground speed and 2mph wheel speed are entirely different

You don't have to be moving at all for the traction control to start kicking in. The wheels will be spinning but the car won't be moving.

Default good for you! >

I got a quote for $750 from an operation in San Antonio that seems competent; they're an hour away. I found them through the Austin Audi Club; the number seems low, but if it's twice that I won't be too upset, now that I know about the work. What did your brother estimate, btw?

http://www.prestige-tuning.com/currentprojects.html</a

Default you sure ESP only acts on front wheels? IIRC...

...I've felt it activating a rear brake at times when making a too-quick turn in the slippery stuff.
