Default Extended warranty "mini dilemma"

Here's the question...my CPO expires soon on my 02 QCpe. I'm at 48,000 miles. Plan to keep the car indefinitely. Extended warranties run about $2000 for 4 years and 50,000 more miles. Should I buy the warranty and not do the TB at about 60,000 miles figuring that if it breaks warranty will fix any damage? Or should I skip the warranty and pay about $1200 for a TB service out of my pocket and "soldier on" without an extended warranty. If I do the belt service, pay for the 50,000 mile dealer service, and pay about $2000 dollars for a warranty, I would be putting about $3700 into the car....money that could go toward a new ride....see the dilemma? What to do?

Default I don't understand how people think that a rebuilt engine is an acceptable tradeoff

for getting their money out of an extended warranty.

Default how so? If he wants to keep the car for a long time as he stated then he would basically

have a new engine. I would just get the CPO.

Default I dunno. I'd rather have my engine built at the factory

I don't even trust my local dealership to change my oil, why would I want them rebuilding my engine?

Default 2nd, very often the car just isn't the same afterwards. >>>

And i'm with you, I wouldn't want anyone doing any more than necessary, let alone an engine replacement (plus fixing any collateral damage) due to my own neglect.

To date the only time the dealer touched my car is for the first oil change and the only reason I brought it in was because the clip for one of the side markers broke.

Fix the timing belt.. put the $2000 in a money market fund and keep it to pay for repairs

Every paycheck I put $50 into a savings account. It even covers wear items & maintenance.

If you buy the TB kit and go to a good independant shop, the TB job should run you about $800-900 including parts. The $1200 price is dealer price.
