Default irritating squeaking/chirping sound when coasting ...

kind of intermittent, seems to be tied to the rate of speed of the car. applying the brakes briefly makes it go away for a short while. wheel bearing? brake problem? something else?

thanks :-)

Default it's because your wheels are too nice

;-)

my vote is wheel bearing.

have you done the infamous locked steering wheel turn around test?

Default I have the same thing..>>

But mine doesn't tend to speed up with the speed of the car...always kinda the same tempo.

It was really loud, then I took apart the front pass. brake, cleaned it, and put brake quiet on.

It got lighter - but still there.

So while driving I pulled the E-brake up a click, and it went away...So it looks like tonight I'll clean and add brake quiet to the rear. HTH

Default Take a look at your brakes, is there a ridge on the edge of the rotor?...>

As the rotor wears the pads begin to ride inside the ridge on the rotor edge. This is most likely causing the noise you are experiencing. My rears are just starting to do this.

Default Ummm...Not really...>

Ridges don't have anything to do with Chronic squeaking or noise. That's just the area of the Rotor that isn't swept by the brake pads. As the rotor wears beyond spec, replace them..

Specs, and how to measure are here..

Default could just be some foreign material on the rotors..or pads....>>>

take them out and do 5 or 6 60-5mph hard braking....see if that makes it go away...

Default I never believe everything the dealer tells me, but I guess this one sounded logical...>

Oh well, at least they gave me free brakes. Or maybe it had something to do with the friction material separating from the backing of the pad.

Default I think you washed your TT so much there isn't any oil left anywhere..........

sorry meem, couldn't resist. BTW I must say your's is one of the nicest looking here, true show car. I had something similar and turned out to be the brake shield a touch too close to the rotor.
