Wasn't harsh or out of line.
It was a specific question for a specific person that no one else would be qualified to answer. It's not like you flamed the poster even. But yeah, the poster is fairly new and it gives more publicity to Steve who does a ton for the forum so it wasn't a huge violation but the public value of the post is pretty minimal too.
