Default Looking to purchase

Hello,

I currently own a 96 a6 fwd 2.8 w/ 250,000 mi
and a 2000 a6 q 2.8 w/ 80,000 mi.

I'm looking to purchase a TT quattro HARDTOP for my wife. I'm thinking 2001 - 2004 w/ low mi.
I understand that there are 2 engine/trans options.
I'd appreciate hearing the pros/cons of these cars from people who own them.

Thank You in Advance !!

I have an 01 coupe with the 180hp 5 speed manual. I like it, but there are many times when I yurn for a little extra oomph. If your wife is using it as a daily driver and doesn't care too much about it being extremely zippy, the 180hp will do just fine. If she wants that little extra, I would suggest the 225.

Then comes the tranny options. You have Auto, Manual 5-speed, and Manual 6-speed. If she doesn't like driving stick, obviously an automatic is best. If she wants to have the most fun, go with a 6-speed. I honestly don't know the benefit of the 5-speed.

Oh, and the mileage diff. between the two motors os about 3mpg I believe. I tend to get anywhere from 31-33 on the highway, and 27-30 in the city if I can keep my right foot under control.

Hope this was somewhat helpful.

Well, a couple of the typical ones that alot of people get are 1) My blinker/hazzard relay switch went capoot. I bought a new one and installed for about $50 and 30 minutes of research and 30 minutes of labor myself.

2) I have lines in the red led section of the gauge cluster. From what I understand, if you play your cards right, you can get a new one and get it installed for free. Sometimes even when you are past your warranty.

Other than those two, I haven't had any other problems(knocks on wood).

You should maybe look around the boards at mods and upgrades for comfort though. One I want is the center armrest/cupholder because the cupholder position in the TT is awkward to say the least.

Also, maintenence on these cars can be pricey, but I'm sure you are aware since you already own a couple Audi's. There is a very nice guide out here on what to look for when purchasing a TT that a saw about a week ago but I can't seem to find it.

Default Typical Audi issues..>>

Many have had cars that have been nightmares, others of us have had a very reliable experience. Mines been essentially flawless since new except for a cluster replacement under warranty. Obviously Quattro is important to you based on your rides. Given the choice, go for a 225.

Mine is for sale....Check it out here or email for more info..

Default I have the same configuration >>>

The only problems I have had (all minor):
Hazard Relay
2 MAF sensors
Rear shocks (oem=total crap)

The car has never seen the dealership for a repair and has been completely reliable, I use it every day, and is my only car.

2002 180QC approx 40k miles.

Default Get a 2002 or newer 225 with an extended warranty

Plenty of zip and no worries, the warranty will cover any problems that you would encounter.

Default I would strongly recommend Steve's car for you

You would be getting as close as possible to a "new" car. Every possible item that could wear out or cause problems has been checked out by Steve.
You could truly buy with confidence.

Default The later model the better. I am on the other end of the spectrum.

I have a 2001, and it has been the worst quality car I've ever owned. Not once in the past six years has everything worked on it. It constantly requires repairs -- frequently expensive.

Many of the issues that plagued early TTs seem to have been addressed in the later model years. If you really want one, try to find a later model and get an extended warranty.
