Default Major Brake Problems, Please Help!!!!!

So I will give the short version of a very long account.
Time Line:
- Had car washed and detailed looks like they detailed the engine bay as well, my understanding that's never a good thing :-(
- Soon as I got the car back home the fun began

1. Car making a very distinct sound like that of an old gas powered generator coming from the brake reservoir/ boster area.

2. On the guage pod: Traction Control light flickered on/off then stayed on (seemed to be some correlation between the brake pedal), ABS Light on constantly, "Brake" light on, when put in to gear warning sound and light began to flash.

Now here is where it really gets good.

3. Upon rolling off car would not move. Though hand brake was released car responded as if the brake was still engaged (All the while the "gas powered generator" sound still going) Pumped the break a few times-- SOUND STOPPED. Car would then "move".

4. And by "move" I mean like a donkey in high heals - Very little power. AS I moved through the parking lot got through 1st gear then shifted into 2nd (Again very little power with the throttle at 100%)Car just bogged down like trying to roll off the line in 3rd gear -- TURNED OFF traction control-- Car acclerated and performed somewhat reasonably. "Brake" light flashing, ABS and Traction Control both solid on the guage pod

5. Got back to the driveway checked the break brake reservoir (good to go) check the boster connections also good to go. No brake fluid anywhere.

Neither battery nor alternator ever changed- Car has 71294 miles on it.

Let me know what you guys think, Thanks

Default Sounds like...>

They pressure washed the engine bay which shorted some of the ABS electrics. Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll get back to normal after it dries out. You might want to get the codes read and see exactly what's going on...You'll need to clear them as well, so a VAG or dealer intervention may be necessary.

Default Detailing/washing the engine bay is not a bad thing>>>

with light water pressure and some simple green...However, a steam cleaning or power washing on these cars could be problematic....Too much electronics and items that could succumb to a really hard spray, if that is what they did.

To me it sounds like they get some component seriously wet to the point it is shorted. As Schwing said, could be the ABS or could be they got water into the intake too....hard to tell...but the ABS light is a good indicator....

I would try to get it dried out....then see what happens...if you have a VAG-COM, that might help too...

Good luck...

Default Re: Major Brake Problems, Please Help!!!!!

Contacted the shop that detailed the car and would you believe they did infact use some sort of pressure washer to clean the engine bay. They have also agreed to pay for the damages that they may have caused to the car!!! Going to take the car in on monday to a local shop who has a VAG-COM to see what issues pop up. Will it be detrimental to drive the car or should I have it towed? Also, I am not familiar with the intake TTinCT is speaking of --a little help. Thanks again

Default If they did pressure wash it...>>>>

it is possible some water could have gotten into the airbox, hence the intake.....that is what i was referring too..

On towing...you need to flatbed a quattro car...
