Default Haledex Suggestions

Apparently my Haledex is fried. Dealer quoting close to 4K to get it replaced. Any suggestions as to where to get it for less? Refurbished?....any suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks

Did they tell you "what" was fried? or Why? IF it was just a controller, that's a cheap fix!

Default My suggestion would be to confirm the diagnosis first.....>>

It may be something as simple as a bad controller (relatively common) as opposed to a completely malfunctioning Haldex (rare). Find someone with a VAG-Com and run the electrical diagnostics and see what (if any) codes you get. Used controllers can be had here relatively cheaply...Unfortunately the entire Haldex mechanical unit is sold as a subassembly that includes the differential and is, indeed, expensive..

Something as simple as a bad brake light switch (really common and a $10 fix) will completely disable the haldex.

Run these checks yourself to confirm....

I've spoke to the Mechanic, he basically said, based on what you are telling me, its most likely the Haledex unit...I guess I need to get somebody trustworthy where they don't just want to "sell" me a new Haledex, instead of a less expensive controller.

It does make a noise, similar to a CV Joint gone bad when you turn. On a minimun turning circle, wheels tend to lock themselves almost....car will still move, but it takes a bit more power to get it going.
