fuel gage problem
The wife's car is an '01 225HP Roadster. Late last winter the fuel gage would peg high when first started up in the morning (only if it had been really cold the night before) regardles of what was in the tank. It would then take 20 minutes or so to drift down to the actual level.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, we could run the tank down to where the low fuel level indicator comes on (the image of the pump on the screen) with no problems. Last week I got a call from the wife saying the car had quit and that she had it towed home.
When I got home, I found the car cranked over flawlessly and that the gage read a little less than a quarter in the tank. Just for the heck of it I dumped a gallon in the tank.....the engine fired right up. I then took it to the gas station.....the pump shut off at 15.94 gallons (16.3 gal capacity) which pretty much pointed towards an indication problem.
Is a sending unit the most likely culprit? Is there an easy way to check and determine which one? Should I first have a gage sweep done on the cluster ($95)?

This happened to me also..>>
Including the running out of gas. in my case it was a precursor to the entire cluster going bad. Often, though, it's just dirty senders. Start the Techron Fix which may do the trick if that is it. Use a bottle of concentrated Techron at each fill-up for the next few tanks. This will usually scrub the sender contacts clean and return accurate readings to the gauge..

Mine had same problem.
It was showing no gas with about 5 gallons in the tank. Tried to bottles of Techron, no joy.
Finally got dealer to take care of FSU during scheduled maintenance. Curiously, they said it tested ok but would replace FSU anyway which fixed it.
