Default '02 Coupe OEM Antenna location

I've searched here, google, audiforums.com, and I think even vortex. Can't find an answer to this one.

I recently purchased an XM radio and I need to attach this special lead directly to the antenna. I was told the FM antenna is in the rear glass somewhere but I only see the defroster leads. I pulled down some of the headliner in the back towards the hatch but couldn't find anything.

As of right now I have the piece sitting on the rear glass on the passenger side as that has gotten the clearest reception so far.

It sounds like AM at best. Any help is appreciated.

Default I believe it is in the rear glass... some of those wires are defrost, others FM

and in my '01 whenever the rear window defrost is On, radio reception sucks... nothing but static. So it's CD music in snowy weather for me.

Default Don't understand why..>>

There is a connection to the OEM antenna for satelite reception? First I've heard of this!

Sat antennas are usually standalone. The FM is in the rear glass but it is powered off a small amplifier at the upper left side of the hatch under the trim. Not sure I'd attach anything to that..

Default First.....

XM has been having satellite issues for the past couple of days. It is fixed as of this afternoon, and my reception is 100% better than it was yesterday or this morning. Maybe this was your problem.

Second, as the Schwingmeister states, there is no relationship between the XM antenna/antenna wiring and your other radio reception. The antenna itself can be placed anywhere you have a clear shot to the sky, including INSIDE the vehicle. Mine worked great inside the TT sitting on the dashboard centered between the vents, close to the windshield, for 3 years. This location also makes wiring pretty easy to the XM tuner. Hope this helps.

Default XM Now uses this "Direct Conneciton" on newer radios

Bustter: I know about the problems they were having the last few days, but I had this problem before all that

Schwing: The older XM radios use to broadcast the FM to your radio from the base of the unit. Apparently, the FCC decided that this was a problem since the transmitters were too powerful and they were causing interferrence in nearby vehicles. This new design requires a lead be attached directly to the FM antenna so that they can use a lower power signal which causes less interferrence. Trust me, if I could get ahold of an older base.. I'd be a happy guy!

jhoeppel: Thanks! I'll check on that side

I'll let you guys know what happens tonight after I relocate the XM transmitter lead. Since going forward if you're getting XM you'll need to know this info.

Default Bad way to go...>

FM modulator or this. Direct input through an Aux adapter is always best. There are a lot of interfaces out there that will allow direct input without hacking into a marginal connection...

Default I hooked mine to the FM connection...

going into the head unit. BestBuy provided a nice little splitter for it and it works fine when XM isn't acting up.

Default How about this?

I have a factory 6-Disc Changer, I assume by getting something like this I'd sacrifice the changer for the XM unless I get a 13-pin DIN switch box. (Do they make those?)

I guess I'd be ok with that since I also have the single CD in the head unit. It'd be worth it to have the better sound.

http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/product.php?productid=9399</a
