Mazda RX-8
Speaking of gas, It is a gas guzzler on premium. I get better gas mileage on my Caddy SRX. It also burns oil, by design, so you have to keep an eye on it.
The handling is fantastic. I have never driven an unmodified car that handles as well as the RX-8. The handling is very quick (don't sneeze or you'll change lanes) and light. It handles like a go-kart on rails. It came with summer tires and the handling in the wet was scary at best. Be careful.
It has low torque so you have to keep it on the boil to extract the power. Off the line it's a dog until 4k rpm but then hang on cause the revs build up very, very quickly to the red line. If you're going to drive it like you stole it, you'll like it. If you want a sedate ride here and yonder you'll be disappointed.

If that is not a criteria, this is one awesome machine and a blast on canyon runs.
It handles like it is on rails. It is a great canyon carver. Much more capable than a stock TT in regards to handling from the factory. Very neutral and light. Great feedback in the steering.
The rotary, like most hondas, keeps the power up high. Torque is not that great down low but when on boil its there.
Great rear seat room. Great car. Doesn't burn oil like most people complain about if properly broken in. When new it drank a little oil every month. Now rarely have to put any oil in (still check it every other week).
The only two downside to this car.... Gas mileage sucks! It drinks gas. Car is made to run rich to keep the temps down. It runs so rich that you have to think about it. Don't crank the car up unless you plan on letting it run for a few minutes or you'll flood it.
Outside of the gas issues, I love the X. From someone with one in the household.
