Illumination of speedo and tach

Just got a 2002 coupe to replace my 2000 coupe.The speedo and tach of the old one, in lower light daylight hours, were illuminated. The new one has the pointers lit, but nothing else.Do I have a burned out bulb, or was there a change in how these functioned. All help appreciated.

Can't seem to find it but....

There is a mod you can do using a vagcom to get the gauges to light when the ignition is on, same with the needles. I'll look when I get home, I know I have it somewhere 'cause I did it on my car.

you'll need vag-com or a dealer but you can change it

Has anyone made this mod work? My 2001 wouldn't take the code change.
