Default Warning: Audi Content!

Q: How do you ease the pain of being TTless in Seattle -- for the second time?

A: It TakesTwo.

We've always been sideline fans of the Mark V GTI. But it took a wacky batch of color to get us to come over.

My wife loved the Fahrenheit GTI so much that we replaced her A4 Avant Q with it. Easier to park, easier to see out of, better mileage. And tons of fun -- the smile goes all the way across her face when she mashes the pedal and the DSG goes snap-snap-snap with the upshifts! Oh, she loves it.

Me, I never really cared for the Mark V Jetta, thinking there was just a little too much Corolla there. But when I laid eyes on the Fahrenheit GLI four days ago, well, the idea of a complementary set was just too good to pass up.

And interestingly, our Audi dealer (a good bunch of folks) couldn't make us an attractive enough offer to get out of the seriously-upside-down TT's financing. But our neighborhood VW dealer did (I bought my first new car there 14 years ago) made us feel special and welcome, and wanted the TT this weekend, to put in their Saab showroom across the street. I bet it doesn't stay there through Sunday.)

I opted for the 6-speed GLI, because as much as I love the DSG, it's fun to be proud of your left foot skills and I've missed that.

So here we are -- a semi-matched set, Salt n' Pepa, perfect fodder for a little feature article in "Driver" magazine, I guess. Too precious for words!

Oh, and the 'Audi content'? There are four rings all over these cars, literally. It's like having 90% of an Audi at 65% percent of the ticket price. And I'm really understanding the Mark 2 TT fans now; the handling and responsiveness and solidity of this generation (and the great 2.0T motor) are really worthy.

Thanks to our TT Forum friends for being the best and most hospitable place to share these photos, too -- the dreaded Vortex would spill too many 'fuglys' to count! (Thank you for not sharing.)

And I'll be hanging around these pages, too. I have too much love and interest in the TT Mk1 as one of the greatest automotive icons in history. Gotta keep up with my pals!

Cheers... time to get a big hit of what VW doesn't call Papaya Orange and Imola Yellow!

~ Bobby

Oh, and here's a serially-numbered bovine stablemate for the GLI! (I believe the farmer said its name was "Audi Content"...)

When you traded in the TT - Did the trunk rack go with it? I might know a good home for it. :-) LMK

Default Nice!

I saw a Farenheit GTI at a dealer near my parents' house a few weeks ago. I like that train motif, as well.
