Dumb question about a chip

Advances certain settings on your car and allows your engine to provide more boost.......
I have the APR chip (www.goapr.com) and have had since 2002. They have various settings. It really unleashes alot more power in your car. Then you will start thinking what else could be restricting that power and then you start thinkning about exhaust and intake.
Chip upgrades should run about $500. One of the best values per $ spent for your TT.
Most of the vendors that do chips, APR, OCT, GIAC, REVO, can do the upgrade through your OBD port under the dash.

Modern FI engines use an ECU (electronic control unit)....
or EMS (engine management system). At it's heart it is usually a 486 chipset. That 'chip' does all the calcs for A/F mixture, timing, boost control, and the myriad things necessary to get over 100HP/liter (try that in your stock Mustang 5L!) from a TT w/ turbocharger.
Several good chip manufacturers (in no particular order)
- APR
- GIAC
- MTM
- REVO
other owners will 'chip in' I'm sure.
If you Google these names, you'll find their websites and the names of their vendors. In the latter TT, you can flash the OEM chip with new program(s) using stock, 93, 98, 100, and even higher octanes. You can get valet (safe) mode, and most programs are 'invisible' to the dealer. One caution: most chips clear the rev limiter.
A typical 180TTQC with MTM chip, VTDA, and Borla is making well over 200 BHP, and a good bit more torque than OEM specs. A 225 TT can easily make 240 HP on just a chip. Other accessories can add to the HP, but the adds are not linear.
