Second, the redline on the Audi version of the V10 is set lower than the Gallardo, I believe that is approximately 7,000. Again, this lowers measured horsepower but is better suited for an automatic transmission. Fluid torque converters usually exhibit cavitation, or the vaporization of the transmission fluid, much beyond 7,000 rpm.
Third, the S8 is rated at 450 bhp whilst the S6 is 435 bhp; however, peak torque is the same for both vehicles. There may be some small differences in packaging that would effect power output, but the difference in horsepower is probably only for marketing purposes.
The S6 may have a horsepower deficit compared with the M5 and E63 but real world testing suggests that the S6 can hold its own against these two cars in every test beyond dry weather straight line acceleration.
