After almost 7 years of using Valvoline Synpower 5W40 on all our cars, Valvoline changed the formula sometime last year. The last few oil changes seem to have an odd bronze color to the oil whenever I check the level.
We did cams on my friends' R32 who also has been a Synpower 5W40 user and his valve cover was stained bronze.
For better or for worse, I have decided to start trying out alternatives. Here is what the UPS person dropped off today- European formula full synthetic 5W40 12L of Elf and 12L of PentoSynth.

Have tried the Mobil1 0W40, but >>>
think it is too light a weight oil. On my 12V VR with the supercharger it used to decolorize within a couple thousand miles. Never got it analyzed so dont know if that was good or bad ...
If they had a 5W40, I would def go with that.
Anyone used their Delvac 5W40 oil? They see, to advertize it as a diesel oil, so dont know if that makes any difference.

I used 50 weight on my Corrado VR when it started burning oil >>&
50 weight helped cut that down to a great extent ...
Maybe with your FT400 kit it is useful to keep the internals cooler. Not sure if it will work well with a stock or mildly modified engine- may be a bit heavy.
Besides, I have heard that Castrol has a higher tendency to cause carbon deposits compared with some of the other good synths out there.
