Default 2001 Mercedes Benz CLK 430 AMG

I saw one on sale around here with one owner and around 50k miles and a very good price. I know its an apples to oranges comparison to the TT, but aside from being an automatic, would this particular model be a nightmare to own in terms of parts and reliability? Anyone have any experiences with this car? Does it have the same engine as the E55?

It's not the same engine; just skirt package, upgraded wheels etc. pretty much a sport package...

Default It was heavy, it weighed just under 4000lbs with 275hp and 295ftlbs. 0-100km was in low 6s...

If its the coupe version of the CLK that you are looking at you will definitely be saving some pounds... I think they are just over 3200lbs. You'll love the back pinning torque in those suckers.

Default wow, I'll pass on that. Didnt know they were that heavy

nothing i hate more than pig heavy cars. Im guessing the handling is not that great either. Now is the E55 AMG a different story as far as speed, handling, etc?

Default if you're looking for a light and nible car, mercedes is not the answer.Neither is any german sedan.

Nor any other sedan for that matter, unless you you look into econoboxes. There maybe few exceptions, but E55 is not one of them.

Default I agree, they are not light or nimble. From the W210 to W211 the car got longer and wider...

I drove a W211 (2004 E55) and it got help in the twisties with the Airmatic suspension, but it is still a boat. These babies are meant for cruising... and straight line (crazy amount of torque, just over 500ft lbs on the W211) $$$$$$$

Default Why is that German cars are heavy?

I have owned a 3 series and a CLK 230 Kompressor before the TT and both are small cars yet felt heavy. What is it that the Germans do to make their car heavy? Thicker sheetmetals?

Default dimentions, engines...etc. Funny thing is that most of Japanese cars which try to compete with

German equivalents have put on weight. For example: TSX weighs as much as a 323 BMW and bimmer has the V6 ;-). Thats 3300lbs for a little 4 door.
