Default Loaner Car for Warranty Repairs?

First I am really disappointed the my 2004 TT Roadster lost the transmission yesterday. Started out being very hard to get into reverse but if you did it would not move anyway. Finally reverse started working but now 1st and second are gone. I had it hauled to the closest Dealer (45 miles) and he called yesterday to say they were going to have to pull the transmission to look inside and to not expect to get the car back until later next week.

On top of all that when I asked if I could get a loaner to drive to work his reply was no, because I did not buy the car from them. I thought a loner was included when you had warranty service done at any dealer. The TT is an 04 with only 39,000 miles.

I emailed Audi of America but haven't heard back yet. Is this an Audi policy or just a local Dealer thing? Either way I am not very happy about it.

Anyone have similar experiences?

Loaner is a dealer thing, not an Audi thing, and it's a perk, not a requirement.

Default I remember reading an Audi brochure saying that they give loaners...

...or at least transportation while your Audi is in the shop. It was from Audi so I don't recall it being specific to the dealership, but maybe it is. ?

I am lucky, I always get a loaner and it's usually a nice one. I've had a Q7, A6, allroad, Passat W8, etc. I've even asked for and received an '08 TT MKII (and this was for service on one of my VW's). It helps being in a small city in central Maine. I've also purchased 2 cars from them and bring my 3 cars there for major stuff.

Default Dealer specific... even then, it might not be a "loaner" but rather "rental"

The terminology is very specific and most will correct you when you say one or the other. In my case with experience at three dealerships, I've been charged $25 a day unless it was otherwise discussed as being part of the service cost quoted.

On top of that, as eas ttq states, it's on a first-come-first-served basis. If they don't have one, you don't get one, and it's incredibly rare that a dealership will just hand you the keys to a car off their lot for you to tool around in for a day.
