Default What does everyone think of the Jeep Wrangler 4-Door rigs?

I am shopping for a friend of mine, and she is thinking it might be a cute (I know) little run-around rig for her kids and her. The kids think it's cool, obviously, because of the removable tops and stuff. I just am not familiar with Jeep other than always avoiding them. I was hoping somebody/anybody here could enlighten me to their curren product status/reputation/quality. Thanks people!

Default Excellent concept. But for some reason I'm not digging the latest style.

As far as product quality, all modern cars are pretty much the same. The only real difference is fit and finish, and that you can judge for yourself.

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070607/BUSINESS01/706070418/1014</a

I think the new 4-door JKs are great. I've had a 1993 YJ for 11 years and still love it.

Default I love the wrangler unlimited.

If I were to get one, I'd get the Rubicon version with the cloth top and half-doors.

I'm on my third Jeep, 1 cherokee and 2 grand cherokees... I've loved all three of them. Probably 250k miles driven over the course of the 3 vehicles. The only problem I had was with the '86 cherokee, which was actually an AMC product (the last year before Chrysler). Had the engine rebuilt at 160k miles (I'd bought it with 60k miles on it).

Default Yeah, except she's not interested in performance, otherwise I'd of turned her the Q7 direction. It

pains me to even look anywhere else and not represent Deutscheland.

Default Discoveries are nice, but I disagree with that statement. I've got a JGC limited with 4.7 V8...

that'll go most anywhere unmodded Discoveries will go. That 4.7l V8 linked with the jeep awd system will pull that LRD and its 190hp down the road sideways.

Default The New generation is a Major improvement...>

I would have never bought one if they hadn't done the re-design. Seems to be screwed together well, Smooth power, fun to drive, pretty good ride and handling (for a Jeep!). My wife likes it too. No issues, no regrets at 3500 miles so far. The dash plastic is a bit cheezy and the gas mileage stinks (14-15 around town, will be worse on the 4 door) but all in all it's a fun around town bomber. Hope to get to the beach with it soon! Don't even THINK about a 2 door if you actually have to use the back seat! The 4 door has taken the Wrangler market by storm but it's a little ungainly looking for a Wrangler. The bonus is It can be had in a Poseur 2WD version. A bit cruder than your average SUV overall. The "Commando" conversion is kinda cool (literally, if she likes air being blown up her skirt!)

Default I saw one yesterday on my commute home...>>>

It looked OK, but I prefer the two-door version like TTschwing/Modshack has. IMO for a woman with children, the Jeep Liberty is a better choice. The soft top stuff is cute and removeable, but also can be a maintenance issue and, depending upon neighborhoods, can invite induced tears via cutting objects.

The 2008 Liberty model change is butt ugly, so if she goes for a Liberty, get a 2007.

We have a 2006 Liberty in the dark green metallic color. It is perfect for my wife and our Borzoi. Gas mileage is not great, but it does the job hauling groceries and the dog and pet supplies. It satisfies my wife's need to sit high and see the road. She does not drive my TT. Too low, she says. The TT is in the garage on weekends and we use the Liberty for errands, SHARE visits, etc.

In 9,250 miles we have had no real problems. Chrysler/Jeep did a recall on computer program for some supposed battery drain issue that we did not have, and on ball joints at no cost. Work was done promptly at same time as 3,000 mile oil changes on the coupons provided in the warranty package. Dealer uses 5W30 Castrol. At 6,000 miles there was a little oil drip which dealer repaired transfer case seal at no charge.
