Default So why does the 3.2 need an auxilary water pump?

I know that the turbo engines have an auxilary electric water pump to keep the turbo from coking up, but there's no turbo on a 3.2. Did they have spare ones laying around in Hungary?

Default Probably for the aux. radiator...>>

Didn't know about the second pump though....
Probably more internally generated heat from the VR6 that the (already designed) cooling system couldn't handle, hence the aux. stuff..

Default The auxilary radiator is meant for...

cooling off the air that is going into the air box. If you take a look of the driver side lower grille, you'll see the radiator there and the air going through it will be directed into the air box.

Default What?

Air going through a radiator that has engine cooling fluid running through it would HEAT the air, not cool it (190 degrees > ambient air). Unless it's a water to air intercooler, and if the 3.2 had that we'd for sure have heard about it long before this! (that's not the correct use for one anyway)

The ETKA lists that part as an auxiliary radiator....

Default That's what I read from one of audi's pictures where...

there were both German and English anyways... I think what you said makes more sense. But the question is why would the engineers at audi design it that way so the "heated" air would be directed into the airbox?

Default Same with the 225 actually...>>

Hot air coming off the intercooler heats the intake air...

There are only limited places you can put Radiators and intercoolers...as well as air intakes...

Default Umm... I see. Thanks! What's interesting is that

on a 3.2 the passenger side the space behinde lower grille is not used for anything. I wonder why they didn't put the aux. radiator there...

I was thinking about this as well. R32s and all MK4 VRs have it on the passenger side.
