Default Quoted $690 for Bilstein/Eibach install. Ripoff?

This is the quote I got today from Streetwerke in Palo Alto.

Yeah, I know the San Francisco Bay Area is expensive, but this is ridiculous.

Anybody knows alternative installer?

Should I try it to do it myself?
TIA

4-6 hours of work and if you throw in the alignment...at least you'll have it done right

Default Does that include a Kmac installation?

Also do the front strut bushings & bearings while they have it apart.

Default I just went through all of this... same parts and all

I was quoted $450 for the labor of the install -- 1.5 hours per corner at $75/hr plus an hour or so for kmac, which the guy said was a bargain, and parts for the front strut bushings/bearings. It did not include an alignment, only labor for bilstein/eibach and kmac, plus installation of bushings and bearings... it was about $600 total.

If I had to give you the best advice, I'd just tell you to shop around and find a good price from someone you'd trust. It's really difficult to gauge pricing versus other people here on the board, because I had been told I could get it done for as low as $350 also, but for me to get it done here at home, no one would even do just the bilstein/eibach for less than $600. I ended up driving the 3 hours to stay with my family in Detroit and have a guy that's also done my timing belt. Comparing pricing here is nearly impossible because a lot of pricing with independent shops will be based off of dealership pricing, which in turn is partly determined by the location. If I had to guess, I'd say that Streetwerke can afford to charge that much because of their reputation. I mean, I live in Michigan and I've heard of them, so you're probably going to pay a premium for that. On the same note, they have that reputation for a reason and will probably stand behind their work to protect it.

Default going from stock to bilstein/eibach

I didn't notice a huge difference in ride quality over my stock setup with 100k miles. I certainly don't think it's any harsher. You will really notice a difference in cornering, as the upgrade will keep the car more level through corners and keep more weight on the inside wheels rather than the outside.
