Tell me this is not possible

I had a situation not long ago where I lost control of the car and heading for a guardrail. I hit the brakes hard and the car magically got me out of what I thought unavoidable collision with the barrier. A similar thing happened last night coming into a turn way too hot with a sweeping right hand turn and a strip of washboard bumps. I thought I was heading off into the grass. Hit the brakes and tried hard to make the turn(but thought I couldn't) and the car again, magically corrects itself and gets me back on track.

My car is FWD with ASR. Question is, how complicated is the ASR given the above situations in bailing one out of tight spots like this. Not quattro with ESP suredly, but the car feels like it is trying to take things over in sticky situations. Possible, or just last minute wise driving skills coming into play?

the car is not that smart, not even the newer MK2 TT is that good IMO.

I say chalk it up to your incredible amount of experience, and the TT just helped you a little.

Might have been ABS helping out a lil-bit.

that's what ABS brakes are supposed to do, not necessarily stop you shorter, but allow you to ...

control the car in panic-braking situations.

Truth of driving skills to come out utilizing my TT West prize for Infineon/Sears Point raceway...

this coming October. I think I am a better driver than I give myself credit for, but I think many people feel that way and get in wrecks. In a few months, I'll get an eye-opening and great knowledge, and and edge above most other drivers when I'm done with the class.
