Side to side play in the front wheel...tie rod ends worn?

Side to side play in the front wheel...tie rod ends worn?
I notice a bit of vibration under soft to moderate braking so I jacked up the car and wiggled the wheel - it moves a bit side to side. I would assume tie rod ends or possibly ball joints - anyone replaced these recently? Cost?

I have been suspecting inner tie rod ends as source of my "backing up and turning" clunk. I don't however find any play when jacked up and wiggling tire . I do wonder that as the suspension drops as the car is lifted that that might eliminate play that is there at normal ride height due to the more acute angle of the inner (or even the outer ) tie rod ends while the suspension is in that abnormal position. Did that make sense? :-) Did you have a clunk sound when backing up and turning? I'm doing shocks next month. It would be nice to have the tie rod ends on hand at the same time if I need them. TIA

Yeah - a bit tough without a lift - what is an "inner" tie rod? I checked ETKA
and they list the assembly or just the "end" which is what I normally associate with a tie rod problem. Doen't look like there is anything "inner" to me.

Hmm - they have em for $40 each side - TRW - I can see the inner assembly in the pic
they have on the site. ETKA illustration just shows the "rod" and no end. I'll check into this. I need an alignment anyway. Thanks Steve. Strut bar looks great - thanks :-)

Take the car to an experienced mechanic. Probably the inner tie-rod. It tends to wiggle underneath the boot, so it's harder to see, so most go by "feel"....
