Default PSA: The wilwood lines 220-8339 don't quite work over the stock setup..

There are a few issues with the supplied lines from Wilwood on their 12.14" kit (#140-8276) that I will seek to have my own fabricated instead from Royal Brass (a company local here that has all sorts of fittings and makes all sorts of lines). Note that the same part number is used for the Golf, Beetle, etc.

A number of issues.

First, the wilwood lines are maybe 2 inches short. Not a big deal.

2nd, the frame fitting to the fender bracket is too large. This requires the dremel the body which I don't intend on doing.

3rd, it doesn't have the shock fitting, which limits line movement from the caliper to the shock. Zip tie can work, or a lot of duct tape, but I need a more stable solution.

What makes it difficult is Wilwood used an NPT fitting, which makes locating a banjo bolt impossible. Pics later when I figure this out.

On the other hand, total savings from a wilwood kit is 21lbs! (34lbs vs 58 for stock)

Wilwood arrival link from the other day

Default really?

i'm guessing that you already contacted wilwood about this, but my lines mated up to the car without any real issues (besides the shock fitting, but i'm hopefully going to have a solution for that sometime soon).

Default Wow! I haven't installed mine as I'm wainting on the safety wire....>>

When I call Wilwood about the safety wire issue, I asked the tech about the SS lines. He told me they should fit the TT with no issues. He said they have sold a few to the TT crowd without problems.

Thanks for the heads up.

Default Mine fit fine...>

A little creativity at the strut (Grommet, zip tie) worked fine. I still think safety wiring on a street car is overkill. The Hat bolts are locking types..

Default I contacted Greg (Ebay store) who is pretty good at working with Wilwood

I checked all the catalogs at Wilwood, and bottom line, they don't sell a fitting that will work with the stock fender bracket location.

However, I just got back from having custom lines made instead. $70 gives me
1) DOT (Wilwood, Goodyear, etc, don't use DOT lines)
2) The correct length
3) The shock fitting
4) But I still have to dremel the fender fitting bracket because they could not source a fitting that works with the TT. What Wilwood used, what they used is standard size - which works on the A4 BTW.

Pics later after my 2 pm meeting.

Default My newly fabricted DOT lines

I still have to deal with dremeling the fender bracket, but at least everything else is squared away.

The folks at Royal Brass are pretty good. They really insist on what's right and proper for safety, and not risking denial of insurance coverage should an investigation lead to a non-DOT part at fault.

There were a number of folks getting custom stuff done for their homebuilt cars, trucks and general plumbing work when I was there.

If you need something done and can't get it anywhere else, try these folks. If a sample needs to be shown to them to create the end product, I can probably help remote folks.

Default I just installed stainless wire on mine. Didn't take very long. We do have a history of things

getting loose on the TT, so I'm glad Wilwood has this option.

On the other hand, the bolts are easy to get to recheck torque, just by taking off the wheels. So that's another option for you.

I never had other 2 piece hats come loose on me though. But I did service a friend's Tarox a while back and the bolts lost all torque settings.

Default The stainless lines built cost $70 (a pair). Not bad considering I can get any shape, size I need.

The only other customizing I had to do was to use my micrometer caliper and find matching washers from my inventory. This allowed me to insert 4mm of washers between the Wilwood caliper mounting bracket and the stock caliper mounting location, so that the Wilwood caliper is centered on the rotor. If not, it would rub on the inside part of the rotor, and the washers provided are not enough.

Default all you need to do is crisscross wire ties to hold the SS lines...

worked on mine since i didn't have the middle bracket as well.
