oil filter hell.
today was fun -- changed my oil and put new (used *thanks meem*) wheel liners in. i usually get my oil filter off no problem (lots of oil changes on this car under my belt) but today, my oil filter was so stuck on i had to twist and mangle the thing off with a hammer, chisel, channel locks, pliers, a screwdriver and 4 different style oil filter wrenches.
the stream of curse words coming out of my mouth towards the end was biblical.
i usually use a "cup" or "cap" style filter wrench without a problem. i tried every style they make today and the one that finally beat the the filter was the plier type (upper right in the pic below).

i know there have been plenty of posts about getting the filters off, but this is my war story. i also spilled a quart of oil in my garage.

did mine last friday too.....my local>>>
shop had done the last oil change, and the mook that did it felt like he put it on with an impact wrench.....
It came loose eventually with my oil filter pliers.....but i hear ya bro...

The K&N has a nut welded on the end of the filter allowing for easy removal no matter how tight the previous gorilla sinched it on...<ul><li><a href="http://www.knfilters.com/oil_filter/audi_tt.aspx">clicky here</a></li></ul>

Has nothing to do with how tight it is though - the pliers allow easier access
and better leverage. Mines never too tight as I do all the oil changes myself. However, the pliers fit in so much easier than anything else. If it is too tight - there is plenty of leverage as well.
