Why does my TT start without pressing the clutch? Can I leave it that way?

I have a 2000 Audi TT 180QC. I remember trying to start the car without pressing the clutch and it didn't start. But today I forgot to step on the clutch and was surprised to hear the engine roar to life. Does this mean something's broken and needs to be fixed ASAP or can I just live with it like my broken mirror switch? Will this damage the car in any way? If I need to fix it...does it have to do with the Clutch vacuum vent valve switch? Thanks Everyone

Bad clutch switch...>

Up at the top of the pedal. It's a safety item. If your sure your wife won't start it in gear and go through the garage wall, you can leave it as is...:-)

Why would you even try to start it without a clutch anyway?

It's there for a reason.

I've done it after driving an auto rental for a couple weeks on business. Not on purpose ...

just forgot that some cars have manual transmissions.

If it's a bad clutch switch be careful if it's tied into the cruise control.
