TT crash insurance woes...?

Noting the recent posts about the TT vandalism incident and I am currently in the middle of an insurance settlement regarding my Coupe which was rear-ended recently while I was sitting at a light ($5000.00 plus to fix)...I wonder if any forum members have experience and advice in this situation: What happens is this: you have an accident or any claim for that matter which runs into thousands of dollars to fix....later, when you go to sell or trade your car you find that it is devalued HUGELY because of the previous damage...many dealers won't even take the car in trade or they lowball it greatly. Is there a way to get the insurance company to compensate at time of settlement for the anticipated devaluation caused by the crash and repair? I have never had this happen so any sage advice from those who know would be appreciated!

Interesting question but an insurance company is in the business..

to make money NOT help you out or do what is fair.

Yes, there may be a way...

It's called diminished value. You may be able to recover this and/or take a tax deduction on the unrecovered amount.

Quite common to get a "diminished Value" settlement..

there is no devaluation as the repairs put the car back into "like condition".

i just went through THE EXACT same situation. Stopped at a red light and rear-ended by a woman in a durrango. Boy, did I pwn her car.

about 5k in damage - and they repainted my back, back hatch, door sills, and replaced my DP, cat, etc.

most cars are in fender benders, and people just look for major accidents. my car was fine after the accident - they just had to do minor stuff. All the painting was because I was really **** about everything.

You usually have to fight for this..
Car fax will document the repair on your record resulting in some skepticism (and potential diminished value) by future purchasers..

heh, you lucked out...

when I got rear ended a month ago, I got pushed into the car in front of me so I have rear end AND front end damage! :-/

my total repair bill is gonna be north of $10K.

(it was a semi doing the pushing, though)
