Default Common problems.....

I've owned two TTs and spent 2-3 years on this forum so I have learned this: TT line has plenty of electrical gremlins (such as mass airflow sensors) but basically sound engineering...instrument clusters fail and cost about a thousand dollars to replace. I have seen a higher than average failure rate of AC compressors. Shocks and some suspension parts will go away between 60 to 120 thousand miles. Audi claims timing belts should be changed at 105,000 miles but EVERYBODY knows this service has to be done every 60,000 miles. My theory on low resale value has to do with two things....overall softness of demand for two seaters in general, and the spotty reliaility record of the car. However, many many owners have had excellent service from their cars (me included). It seems there are some lemons in the bunch and yet many owners have had excellent luck with their cars. Consumer reports has always noted elctrical gremlins about the line, but overall reliability according to them is only slightly below "average". To me, the lower resale - and lower price a buyer would pay - counterbalances any added costs for repair and maintenance. I would happily buy another TT (both mine were used) and will eventually buy one of the new series TTs. Always get complete service records of any car you consider and stay tuned to this forum...I think about every possible problem a TT owner could have has been addressed here...this forum makes ownership fun and saves you money!
