cam-tensioner seal -where is it and how do I replace?
Is there a write up somewhere? I searched and couldn't find anything. It also doesn't specifically refer to it in the Bentley manual.
Do I need special tools or does it come out with the valve cover gasket?

are u talking about the flat seal that is between the tensionr and the cylinder head?
its cake to replace. things leak all the dang time..... i cant think of any non standard (for working on a vw/audi that is) tools needed to do the work. should be a 1-2hr job that can be done in a drive way.

People keep talking about a cam tensioner seal leak. Is it the camshaft
chain tensioner? which side of the motor? Do you take the valve cover off? My car has a burnt oil smell and I'm trying to figure out where it's coming from. Some have suggest this seal. I need to get a closer look to see if anything's coming out, then figure out how to change if I need to.

the tensioner is on teh drivers side of the motor as u stand infront of the car and look at the,
motor its on the edge of the cylinder head partly poking out from under the valve cover. to change it, you would take everything off down to the vavle cover, pull the valve cover, then u can unbolt the tensioner and slide out the gasket pieces that are under it and install new one's. iv done it beofr w/ out having to take the cam's loose from the head. its tight but do able. i heard there is a updated seal, i assume it just just a better meteral but same desing. when i built my last motor i put this seal in w/ the head 100% apart so i cant remember if it was any diffrent to install than the last i had done in the car.
