Default Car doesn't start on first attempt after sitting for a few days. Second crank gets it fired up

right away. On the first try it cranks and cranks, I can hear it catching and beginning to fire up but when I let go of the key it goes quiet. No matter how long I crank the car and hold it while its beginning to fire up, it won't run on the first attempt. Second attempt gets it going PERFECTLY. Any ideas? This never used to happen. Car always fired up. Even after sitting for a few weeks with battery unplugged, engine would come to live instantly.

Any ideas?

Pretty normal apparently. Mine does that fairly often.

Default my theory on this is it's a failed fuel line check valve >

it makes sense to me, but admittedly is just a guess; I don't know of any way offhand to identify it other than to replace it/them either.

Yeah, mine does it too. But it doesn't take a couple of days. It can happen almost any day, but usually in the morning.

2001 TT quattro 225HP, bone stock.

Default Had exact same issue and it's fixed now....

03 225Q with 24k miles.

Took it to the dealer and they replaced the fuel sending unit and flashed ECU with most current revision. They said they have seen it before and new exactly what it was when I brought it in. I still have the stock ECU so no big deal there, but either way... they said it was just the sending unit that needed to be replaced to fix that starting issue.

I've had it back for about a month now, and haven't had the issue again. It sat for 4 days last week and had no problem starting up first time.

I'm still looking for that chip that is priced just right. Budget-wise that is

Hope that helps!

I wonder if these fuel issues could be causing lower avg. injector period readings in vag...hmmmm.

Default I guess I'm in for a new fuel sending unit. For some reason I seem to think that

dealer changed it not so long ago. Better check.
