If I'm going to spend 4.5k on an OEM turbo replacement, I may as well spend 3k more for a BT kit.

Default For what it's worth- I spent about $1100 on parts and labor to replace my OEM turbo.

I picked up a very gently used OEM K04 from a guy on here for $400, and had it installed for $700- which included some oil feed lines and stuff, easy stuff to replace once you're in there. even going to the stealership was only going to run me $2700 or so... nowhere near $4500. i think you can source brand new K04s for about a grand... tack on $700 for install, and you're well below the price of a stage 3 kit...

but if you're ever going to go stage 3- this is the perfect time to do it. i decided not to, because when my turbo went- there weren't many stage 3 options available (cheapest was about $10K IIRC) and i definitely did NOT have the funds for that kinda expenditure at the time!

i've had that turbo on my car for probably 50K hard driving miles, and it's still pulling strong...

Default For what it is worth, get a rebuilt turbo from a truck rebuilder facility...>>>

Many years ago the turbo went out on my wife's Audi 5000T. Our independent mechanic go a rebuilt turbo for it from a facility that remanufactures turbos for truckers. The rationale was that a trucker wanted his turbo to be reliable and trouble-free. A facility that rebuilds for truckers take great care to do them right and careful because they do not want to deal with an angry trucker whose rebuilt turbo failed due to shoddy workmanship.

The Independent mechanic is still in business and is still a highly respected independent shop for Porsche, Audi and Mercedes in this area. I trust his judgement and advice.
