Default Trade in the TT for an S2000? You guys are going to hate me..

Here is my situation:

Seems like everytime something goes wrong with the TT, its another $800 here, $1,000 there.. I'm at 64k miles. I've already done the timing belt, but hate having to worry about how much the next repair is going to cost. So.. do I stick it out and keep the car, or trade in the 01 TT for $11grand and buy a used S2000 for $16,000 with 37k mi. Still getting a 2 seater convertible (although losing a lot of my luxuries), but will hopefully be more reliable with a cheaper maintenance cost as my daily driver. I love the TT and don't want to lose it, but as a recent college grad with a lousy job, I don't know if having my savings being eatten up for parts is what I should be doing. (Yes, I know I should have thought about this before I bought the car 3 yrs ago, but I couldn't resist at the time). Yet, spending an extra $5,000 on another car might not be worth it either.

Sorry to sound like a whiner but before I spend $1600 on repairs and tune up, I need an opinion on whether or not it'll be worth it to keep, or should I be taking advantage of this S2000 for sale right now?

Each has its own merits. Only you can make the final decision... GL

Default Low on funds for awhile?....>>

Go with the car that's cheap to keep. honestly I've always been amazed to see starving college kids buying used TT's. As you're finding out, unless you have a trust fund, do all your own work, or are just lucky, the TT isn't the car for one on a budget. Nothing wrong with an S2000....

Default take 2k and buy a dependable daily driver

i.e. a civic or something. then, learn to do most, if not all, of the work on the TT, which will save you a ton of $$. there's a lot of great information on this forum regarding repair work, and a lot of local enthusiasts are more than willing to help out with repair work in case the job is too big for one person.

Default Apples and oranges regarding performance and styling

Almost everyone would agree that the S2000 will be more reliable. The other plus is that it is a better performance car. The negative is that you have to run it at high noisy RPMs to get that performance. That gets really annoying on long drives. If you don't run it like you stole it, its performance is mediocre. Some think the cockpit looks like a true racer while others think it is cramped. The trunk is even smaller than the TT's. Reegarding styling there is no contest. I often mistake the S2000 for a miata until I get closer.

Seems to me that if money is tight, rather than spend $5K for a new ride now you'd be better off with the TT. Also keep in mind you can still get a zero deductable extended warranty from Warranty Direct so you can limit your future payouts.
