Default Diagnose this-

I have a suspicion, but I'll wait for more experienced hands to weigh in-

- Friend picks up 2002 TT-R in Long Island and drives it home to GA
- He has fairly complte service records on car, and it is good, although TB/tensioner and WP are OE
- Drives to work, and for whatever reason idsables the ESP
- Starts car, drives 150 yards, and car stops running but will turn over
- I haven't insptected the car, but he insists (frightening) that car is making compression.

Options:
- Immobilizer failure
- TB failure
- Fuel delivery system (FPR, fuel pump)
- other "undiscovered country"?

So: the simple things are hard. Where do we start.

You usually get a start and 1/2 second of running....

Default I'm going to say 50/50 Timing Belt-No Fuel

bad cluster is common, possible pump or level sender. A car with a stripped TB makes a distinct sound on cranking. Pull the upper TB cover back & crank to see if it's spinning. If so add a gallon of gas & try it. If no luck carefully pull back the fule pressure line off the rail to see if pressure was built up. Immobilizer causes a start stall condition, within about 2 seconds. Could be something else as well....

Assuming he has compression as he claims. Bad senders or cluster common..

I've had it happen and can verify that the car does run for a second and then shuts off

Claims he added fuel and got the start/stop. How do we find the Immobilizer circuit?

Is the little Key symbol staying lit in the cluster or going out? Lit, than immobilizer.

(or try one of the other keys)

Default I never said this problem was the immobilizer >>>

I was just confirming what happens when the immobilizer kills the car.

This sounds like a fuel problem.
