Default OK, post below reminds me. I had a wierd CEL yesterday. Any advice(besides "Sell it")

I just got in my car to go to the store for a min. I let it warm up as usual. Then I pulled out and headed down the street. I got about 1/4 mile and it felt like I had lost a hose or something. I lost a lot of my power and it was gasping for air. At the same time my CEL was flashing at me rapidly. I had to go another 100 feet or so to pull over safely. By the time I pulled over everything was back to normal. I checked all my hoses and anything else I could think of but everything was good. I went directly back home and looked a little more and test drove it for a while right around my house but nothing. It has been fine since but I still don't know what was going on. Any ideas????

Flashing CEL is not good.

Default Lowcountry is right...flashing CEL isn't good...

I think the manual mentions something about a problem with the catalytic converter and I know people who have had problems with coil packs and their CEL flashed. I wouldn't ignore it though...

Default if you had a chip soldered in, i would pull the ECU out and check that before anything else,

that's what happened to me. I had an APR chip soldered in...it was a hack job, with jumper wires going all over the place. make a long story short, those jumper wires eventually gave way and...well, shorted out the ECU.

but just before that happened, i noticed the car acting oddly. flashing CEL, sporadic power like i was losing compression and the car did not go or if and when it did...was intermitent. i pulled over, let the engine cool off again...and it was fine. but it progressed to weird to bad...and finally, it stopped entirely, although it was crank...then start, then the immobilizer would kick in and kill it. had it flat-bedded to an indie...the ECU was opened up and voila...a fried ECU.

although i got a core charge back, it was a costly repair. i had to have the car towed several times...once off the parkway, then another from there to the indie shop, and finally to the dealer because they have the magic keys to the ECU.

i hope its not that, but it may be.
