Default TT oil consumption?

Hey everyone...

Been a while since I posted. I have been mainly trying to take care of the little things with my 'new' 2001 TT before I get into fun mods. E.g. wash/clay/polish/wax, brake replacement, fluids, maintenance, etc.

I'm curious, though, about how the TT consumes oil. I've never owned a turbocharged vehicle before. It seems like I'm a little low on oil every couple of months and need to add some more. She stays in a parking space for a day or two at a time, and I don't see anything underneath her in terms of fluids or leaks. I'm wondering if the TT or turbocharged engines in general tend to lose oil over time? Does it get burned? Or is this a sign of a problem?

Thanks...I appreciate everyone's advice and help.

Default Have you checked your plugs?

I was losing oil at a slow rate (about what you described)...I happened to check my spark plugs and there was oil on them due to leaking valve cover gaskets. $30 in parts but not the easiest fix I have done. Still only half way through the job so Im not sure if this will resolve the issue...but I know it needs to be done either way.
Also... check your dipstick holder (not sure if that is the techinical term for it) but on my car it is made of bright orange plastic and I dsicovered that the plastic had cracked to the extent that the dipstick wasn't forming a seal and the entire holder was actually shorter. Oil was basically boiling up out of the engine. Easy to replace but a set of small hands is useful. Hope this info helps.

I would say to check it out. My car is an '01 225 with 68k and it does not use a drop of oil. I have never once had to add a drop of oil and I change my oil at 5k intervals. Still amazes me since I drive my car hard at times.

Default The reason is usually....>>

The PCV system. Having to deal with both vacuum and Boost is difficult. A bad PCV or check valve will allow a little of pressure bleed through the system and the oil just gets sucked along.

Default I'll second that.....this tee on my TT's PCV system was showing evidence of a leak

Default That picture is more helpful :)

Now that I have some context as to where the PCV is, I can check it out.

Do I need to remove the plastic engine cover to get at this? Is the fix pretty straightforward, or is this something better suited to my local shop?

Thanks

I didn't expect to lose oil. I just recently added oil about 5-6 weeks ago and I'm down to about 1/4" on the dipstick. I'll have to check it out per Steve and TampaTTgirl's ideas. It's good to have a comparison and know that this is definitely way beyond normal.

Thanks!

Thanks for the follow-up. Steve's additional picture helped clarify exactly where this is. I'll go check it out.
