on 17x8 wheels...what would be the ideal offset? (w/o spacers)

on 17x8 wheels...what would be the ideal offset? (w/o spacers)
so i don't wanna increase the fender gap....at the same time i will NOT be running spacers.
stock is 32 offset right? these wheels i'm looking at are 35 offset.
Will a 28 offset work with a 17x8 setup? 32 would be a little further out towards the fender right (considering these wheels would be a bit wider than OEM). how far can i go safely? 25mm?
i've used the offset calculator...and it helped, but i needed a more verbal assessment of the situation

Yup. The lower the number the closer to the fender the wheel...>>
My wheels are +35 offset and with a 25mm rear spacer, fills the wheel well just fine.
I believe the quattro is around 6mm more narrow than the fwd.

yeah, i just found out 35mm is the smallest available..
on these particular wheels.
you're running 25mm spacers and they're flush? what is the width of your wheels?

it depends on what your definition of "is" is...

Seriously, it does depend on your definition of ideal... perfect fitment to the fender, vs ideal suspension geometry. Spacers are required to line up the fit with the fender. Since you're emphatic about not using spacers (makes two of us), then you should go for ideal geometery (the same as stock @ et = 32). But you'll still have to use a small spacer... With an et=35 wheel, a 3mm spacer will put you to et=32. My fronts are 17x8 @ et=32. Pic shows you what you get assuming 225/45-17

Hmm, centripetal force would send the car out of the curve, while frictional
force would try to keep the wheels in the curve. If there is flex, I would figure it would do the opposite, that is make your wheels less flush to the fender. Maybe its the shadowing of the pic that makes it look flush, either that or I'm missing something.

ET34 as I would guess that its more important to keep the wheel's proportional
weight distribution on either side of the hub equal to stock rather than keep the stock ET if you are going wider and want that Factory/OEM weight suspension geometry. So you if are moving from 7.5in width to 8in width, the extra .5in should be distributed proportionally. If you set up the proportions that gives you 17x8 ET 34 if you want to keep everything "balanced".

alright, so running 17x8s with 35mm offset will be..
FINE, right? If i wanna pop in some spacers, i suppose it will reduce the gap.
but otherwise, it SHOULD be comparable to stock then.
