Default One more boost gauge question - electrical wiring

Hi, me again

I apologize in advance for the length of this post and my apparent lack of knowledge of basic wiring. I was never good with electricity.

Ok...I never took any sort of electronics in high school or college. I took digital circuit design, but unfortunately that's not helping me here.

On my electrical boost gauge, I have a number of wires. The install PDF from the vendor is not very helpful. The diagram shows me, sort of, how things should connect, but it's not entirely clear HOW they connect.

To lay it out, I have a couple of sets of wires.
1) Electrical sender unit - has a red, black and white wire coming off the back
2) Wiring harness that plugs into the back of the gauge - has red, orange, green, white, black coming out of it. On the other end is a 5-pin conneector for the gauge. Hooking that part up is easy.

From the install guide, I am shown how to hook this all up (see below).

Nylon tubing from the regulator through the mini air filter they provided up to the sender is self explanatory.

The wires - White, black and red (Close??) to the "White Connector" on the back of the gauge is part of the trouble I'm having. If you look at the 8-step diagram, we see that the boost sender wire is apparently connected to the Green wire (White Sender -> Green Gauge), and Red should go to ignition. The Orange and White I need to wire up to ACC and Parking Lamp to get White/Amber (Day/Night).

My questions are as follows:
1) Where the heck do I put the White Sender wire? Do I solder or crimp the ends together?
2) What is ACC referring to for my wires?
3) Is the ignition switch the proper wire to hook this up to, or is there a better choice? I'd rather not splice my ignition, in case something goes horribly wrong, I'd like to get to work on Monday.
4) Does my sender red wire also go to ignition? From the 8-step diagram it appears it does (step 7).

Again, sorry for my extreme lack of understanding, but the diagrams just aren't 100% clear to me. I'd rather get it right on my first try. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read and respond!

- TTsumi

When they talk about ACC or ignition switch, I think this means switched 12 VDC, which is a 12 volt source that turns on when you switch on the ignition (as opposed to 12 volts that is always on regardless of ignition switch position). Not sure about the TT, but VWs have terminals in the area below the instrument cluster/fusebox where you can tap into switched 12 VDC. I am certain someone here will tell you where switched 12 volts is easily accessible for your gauge. You do not need to run to the ingnition switch, you only need to find a wire/circuit that is turned on with the ignition.

From the diagram, it looks like both red wires (gauge and sender) need to be connected to switched 12VDC.

The one diagram says to connect white from the sensor to the green wire on the gauge, black on sensor to ground, and red on sensor to switched 12VDC.

I would run all sensor wires into the passenger compartment (hole above gas pedal is good for this), then hook sensor ground and 12VDC to the same point as the gauge wires. Then connect white sensor wire to green gauge wire (solder or crimp connection).

Default Frig >>

What's bad about it? Aside from the fishbowl effect I get from the glass face, and the horrible viewing angle no matter which vent I put it in........ How does the VDO (mechanical I assume) you have in your sig stack up?

Btw - you located in Boston?

Thanks for the feedback. If I have to eat $50 it wouldn't be the first time.

Default Thanks for the followup >>

I appreciate the clarification. After reading what you wrote and looking back at the diagram, I think I need to have my head examined.

Thanks!!

Why do I have the feeling the ratio of HAD to HAS is very high? What do you have?

Default go with Revo Technica Rev2

It matches close enough and is cake to install and wire.

No negative things to say here.
