audi dealer burn
i took it to audi and paid them the 130 dollars to check the car out. they come back and tell me its the turbo.
i buy a used turbo, take it to a shop thats affordable, and they proceed to replace the turbo. got the turbo replaced. rattle is still there.
they call me and it turns out that its the tensioner. the timing belt is about to go. the mechanic tells me that hes surprised the car has lasted that long.
so not only did i pay for a turbo replacement, but a timing belt change as well.
it was something that i knew needing to be done soon.
it just sucks that audi in their infinite wisdom diagnosed it wrong.
any chance of them giving me my money back? i plan on going there after work and telling them what i think wether they repay me or not.
no matter i guess, im still going up there today. maybe throw in a few words such as better business bereau, media..who knows. sounds stupid, but it works sometimes.
2) they actually thought is was the turbo, and since you had the work done somewhere else, you now have no proof that the turbo was not the problem in the first place--unless you yourself have a first hand working knowledge of turbos and can take the old one in, provide evidence that it was actually in the car and that it was fine before removal--difficult at best to do.
3) the independent shop could have screwed you by not telling you FIRST that your turbo was fine, and the problem was the belt etc, and you need to ask them for part of the money back for your new turbo.
BTW, how much did you pay all total for both jobs?
i do have the old turbo.
the shop i took it to. he told me he wasnt sure that it was the turbo, but it did sound like it could be. i had already bought a new turbo. told him to put it in. after test driving it after he still heard the sound, then after looking closely, saw that it was the timing belt.
all said and done it cost 1100 dollars.
but i had more done to it. the new turbo didnt fit so i had a samco inlet pipe put in, and the exhaust manifold had a crack, so i had a used one put in.
i think they did pretty good and for cheap too.
like i said..alot of people recommended them. all they work on is VW's and audi's
