Default When they come, they come in spades ... expert TTers needed >>>

So as you all remember (maybe) that I had changed my suspension a couple of weeks ago and had a rubber on metal binding kinda noise- I rebuilt the front coilovers, checked installation, lubed up the sway bar bushings and yet that rubbing noise remains.

Now, as of yesterday we have a new player- a metal grinding noise on acceleration that seems to reduce in volume as speeds increase and currently is inaudible at hwy speeds. It seems to come from the front right ... I have checked the brakes, pads, wheel speed sensor magnet had some ferrous dust on it so cleaned it with a pressured air can.

I am thinking wheel bearings or front outer CV joint. I plan to order a new front wheel bearing and a wheel speed sensor. What do you all think?

Thanks as usual.

When's the last time you had your wheels balanced? (I just went through this is why I ask)

how many miles? if it's a wheel bearing -- do both fronts.

Default how's your steering? could be the rack...depending on noise...or wheel bearing. does the

sound increase with speed? or get quieter with speed? check your brake rotors and hats...maybe something is rubbing. also, the brake shields...when it touches the rotor, you'll get a metal rubbing noise, then as speed increases, either the heat or speed will make it inaudible or heat expansion will change the sound or move it away from the rotors.

Default 40K miles on car >>>

and the noise is coming when going straight so I ruled out the steering rack.

The noise seems like a deep grinding one - something like when ABS kicks in but w/o the pedal pulsation and the volume is lower.

The noise frequency picks up with speed but the volume goes down; inaudible on the hwy.

Checked pads, rotors and shield.

Even run the car on a lift. Actually, when on a lift the noise does not seem to be there. Maybe something to do with the wheels unloaded ...

Default Wouldn't bother with the sensor if you don't have an ESP or Brake light>>

How much of the front end did you pull apart? I'd start with the CV's and bearing because you've changed the angle that they are operating at. Did you drop an aggressive amount? Is the sway bar link hitting?

Default Had dropped the subframe to install the DEFCONs >>>

Ride height in the front is lowered about 1/2" at most. The control arms are still angled upward towards the center of the car.

I have eliminated the wheel bearings as the vibration is not all the time.

It happens during moderate to hard acceleration and is most apparent in 1st and somewhat in 2nd gear around the 2000-3000 rpm range.

Ideas?

Default Subframe? >>>

Why did you drop the subframe?

Your description of the vibration does not eliminate the wheel bearings. If it's rotational that's where to start then work in to the tranny.

Does the sound change if you accelerate while turning? Louder going right or left?
