Default Could have been seriously injured or worse at the hands of another Audi today...

I was in the far right lane (exit only) of N/B I-5 approaching the Clairemont Drive exit in San Diego. As I approached the exit at around 65 mph, I noted that the lane to my immediate left had come to a stop, while my lane, and most of the others were moving just fine.

Just after that, suddenly, a back newer A4 was in my lane, having darted diagonally without warning into the lane, blocking it completely. He didn't enter the lane and keep moving, but instead, entered it and stopped.

There was no way on earth that I could have hit the brakes and not slammed into the Audi at anything less than 50-55 mph.

So I gunned it, threw the TT sideways onto the shoulder, and ESP and I corrected the abrupt swerve so that I was able to straighten things out and take the exit without incident.

Honestly, I'd guess that 95 out of 100 drivers would have slammed into the side of the A4. Again, I was going 65 and he was stationary, so there's no question in my mind that it would have been a serious injury impact.

Fortunately, the TT handles well and has ESP, plus I've done autocross, autocross school, Audi driving school, and police driving school and pursuit training. So I think all of those factored into a much better afternoon than things might have otherwise been had I been a grandmom in a Buick, for example.

Very scary, but at least things turned out fine.

Dang I missed it! I was getting off I-5 at Claremont (nimbus grey quattro roadster) at around 12:30 today. The other driver was probbaly on the phone, noticed the stopped traffic and used your lane to escape rear ending someone or being rear ended. Good save!

Default You didn't miss it by much...

I'm a stockbroker and got off at 1, so this probably happened around 1:15 or so.

Default Awesome. I was almost in a head on with a city cop last week...

in my wifes Trooper. He tboned some stupid lady who cut him off, he bounced off her, and directly in oncoming traffic, ie, me. We stopped about 6 inches from each other. Close one.

Yours is way cooler.

Nope, although the paint from the red curb has worn off, so it doesn't look so bad.

I'd hate to run into a cop even if it wasn't my fault!
