I'm faster with it then I was with a BB...
Unless you are a one-handed text while you drive person, the iPhone is great for texting. I find it faster one-finger than double-thumb on a BB.
I think what really helps is that the predictive text/spelling correction is fantastic. I ignore all spelling mistakes and it auto-corrects as I go.
Also, having the text message conversations kept separate and organized is helpful.
