Default Getting my first Audi, so i need some info

So Im getting my first Audi in a couple of weeks but before i do i have lots of research to do, but i figured i could have all my questions answered here!
I first wanted a 2006 Audi A4 S LINE, but the s line is too expensive so i like the TT as well so now i want a 2004 Audi TT. Quattro if possible, but i've heard about all the problems the TT has and im honestly scared to get one. So i wanted to ask you all if there is a time line or certain years when the TT had less problems. I know that 2001 and 2002 models are full of problems but what about the following years?
also what is the most common problems with the TT and how much does it cost to fix it.
and last you guys probably hear this all the time but how many miles do you get with a full tank. I know that the TT Quattro has a 16.30 gallon tank. so i would divide the total miles by 16.3 to get the average mileage per gallon.

If there are answers to these questions in other in other threads please redirect me so that way i wont waste your time.
Thank you for your help!

Default Not so black and white. I have a 2000 TTQC w/ > 114K miles....

Aside from a dealer fault that caused a Timing Belt failure, it has had the usual low-level problems: cluster (dealer replaced), coolant leaks when dealer didn't replace an o-ring properly, yadayada. But otherwise no significant discoveries. Others have run the opposite end of the spectrum, with clusters of issues. Not sure if there is any rule fo thumb to 'predict behavior'. But there are a few certainties:

- The FAQs are your friend
- DO replace the Timing Belt, Water Pump, and TB tensioner every 60k to 70K. Failure to do ALL can be catstrophic!
- COnsider having a spare coil pack or two handy. They're cheap.
- Don't tolerate poor dealer performance. Do cultivate your dealer relationship, or the one you have with an indie.
- Get VAG-COM: you can be as well-informed as the factory techs.

YMMV (literally): driving my 180 Quattro at 70 I get 30mpg on LEVEL highway. Doing 75 I get 27. The 225 may actually be a bit more fuel efficient in cruise ranges, and I have an MTM chip that makes my actual HP rating 'secret'.

I've had mine since 2003. I track it at least 3x a year, and run into the hills frequently. My mod list is pretty typical: software/chip, suspension, better brakes, intake, and exhaust, plus some doodads.

I love it.

Default a few answers...

First off... not all Audi TTs have problems. I have a 2000 model and the only problems i have so far are 1) center dome light not working and 2) possibly a faulty diverter valve or PCV valve after 75K miles. As with all cars, if you take proper care of your car and are on the good side of luck, you will not encounter nay problems. But people here have come across all sorts of problems with their cars.

As far as the particular year model is concerned, from reading the forums I would say 2004 onwards TTs have very few problems.

Audi and VW are known for their electrical gremlins, so be prepared. Doesn't take too much to fix these if you can indulge youself into little DIYs. Stealerships ofcourse will rip you apart on smallest of problems.

I get exactly 30 miles to a gallon on highways. I have a chipped 180FWD non Quattro. I never bothered to check my fuel consumption in city as it seems too vague to me.

Search for a FAQs thread in this forum for most common issues, performance mods etc.

There is a very nice guide for first time Audi TT buyers on vwvortex forums IIRC.

Good Luck

Default Welcome! Start saving now for repairs.

Yes these cars can be very problem-prone, and are expensive to fix. Avoid the dealers for service as much as possible -- they tend to inflate repair costs. Find a good independant shop that has experience working on these cars and start building a relationship.

Take some time and read the FAQ thread -- most of your answers will be answered there. If not, post 'em -- there is a ton of knowledge and experience here that can help you out.

FAQ thread

Default Buyers Guide link...>

The Variables seem more pronounced car to car than year to year. The 2000's were a bit more problematic, but many of us here have had very reliable 2001's and on (and some not)

Buyers guide link. Default What Problems. I own a 2002 225QC and......

have had only one problem since I bought it, and that was that I had to replace the cluster under warranty by the dealer. Otherwise, the car runs, handles and performs flawlessly.
The problem is that some owners have either abused their cars or just happened to get a lemon, which happens with all brands, types and makes. Of course you only hear, or read, about these problems which I believe to be in the minority.
TTs are no more troublesome than any other Audi, Mercedes or Porsche. Trust me on this one since many of my nearest relatives own a number of these other high-end brands.
Buy it with confidence.

i have a question, lets say i buy a used 2004 audi TT with like 25k miles. it will still have one year of manufacturer guarantee or 25k miles. If there is something wrong with the car and the guarantee covers it, would they fix it with no charge at all?
