Crankshaft/piston bearing test deemed necessary?

After seeing that the crankshaft bearing looking quite good on my 150k miles engine (see other thread) I'm wondering what people think in general about piston and crankshaft bearings - should they be inspected, or are they rather a non-wear item on the late 1.8Ts? I know that for my other ride, the '88 325 Bimmer, the bearings should be checked and likely rather replaced at the mileage the TT now has.

Opinions, anyone? (Just curious, as I have now a new lower half engine and hopefully am fine with that part for the next 150k miles 8)

I would clearance them (Plastigauge) and see...>

That will tell you if they're within tolerances...It's very easy to measure this with precision.

Based on your engine history (and luck) I would replace them. At least check them.
