034 engine mounts, a review ... edited
I installed all three pieces, a complete Street Density kit, in my 2001 225 Quattro Coupe. My original mounts had accumulated 160k+ miles but still seemed Ok. I'd somehow avoided the clearance problem with the 42DD 3" DP and stock mounts that most experience.
day 1: a late start, an oil change and alignment work left time to complete only the dog bone... by itself it tilted the engine forward, and now my down pipe hit the chassis under high power.
day 2: the engine and trans mounts were added and all's good... DP to chassis contact is gone.
pluses:
NVH? nope! there's no new noise or vibration...
the car's a bit smoother in fact
shifting is improved...
A recent upgrade of my original DieselGeek short shifter to a Sigma Six increased gear change effort substantially. Cold (winter) "drive off" required a pretty lengthy run (20-30 minutes) for things to warm and loosen up.
Now, no warm up's needed, the gear box is "like buttah" :-)
overall, the car's just more "hooked up"
minuses: none
bottom line: this kit works as advertised!
"STREETDENSITY Mounts are solid rubber mounts with a 50 durometer about 25% stiffer than stock, this means they still ride smooth and quiet but provide a marked improvement in drivetrain dampening over stock mounts"
for day to day, road trips, canyon racing and occasional tracking: 034 Street Density engine mounts get two thumbs up from this reviewer!
ps: props to John for working through the details and for a test drive

edit: the dog bone has 3 bushings. All three in my 034 street density bone failed within the first year. The engine and trans mounts continue to work well. Pass on the 034 dog bone. Most use poly successfully... I'm currently using OEM with a mod to the bone increasing preload on the rubber bushings... result: poly stiffness with zero noise transmission

034 Density Line

Vibration has been eliminated.
I didn't check, but rumor has it that 034's are cheaper than new OEMs :-)
