Default tape-deck iPod set up :-P

so I don't want to pay for the IceLink nor do I have time/tools to hardwire it to replace the CDC. I never use the tape deck anyways, so I just put an adapter in, tucked the wiring around back to come into the console below the ashtray I sanded down an old iPod dock I had, painted it black, and put grippies on the bottom. Radio cover still closes, so after all, I'm satisfied for now. Next step is probably one of those new universal docks that come with a remote--that way I don't have to reach down there to jump tracks:

Cool, no one would ever know if you didn't show them the wire. How does it sound?

Default ha! brilliant idea!

i use a cassette tape adapter for my ipod as well. its such a mess in my car. i just stash the nano in that little center console spot because in the area where you have yours set up, it gets sooo hot in there in my car!

Default yeah, it's hard to tell that it's there, and it actually sounds pretty good...

there is inevitably some noise during the silence between tracks, but as long as there is music it sounds as good as a CD. and you can really only hear the noise between tracks if the car is stopped, so even better haha. I usually listen to my exhaust when I drive anyways, it's mainly for the 350-mile trips to and from school.

Default yeah I've noticed that it gets real hot in there, ...

the grippies I have are like half-spheres of rubber I stuck on the bottom, so the actual dock has about 1/2" of space underneath it... hopefully this will let some of the heat dissipate.

Default Nice...let us know what you think over time.. (?'s about dock pins over time in a car)

..a while back here, many of us had concerns about using an iPod dock for daily automotive use given the relative fragility of the pins. Don't want to damage the connector or the iPod end! I'm not sure the docks were designed with automotive use in mind, though I'm curious to hear your thoughts over time. This was all in the days before the lighter weight nanos. The bulkier, heavier, now "classic" iPods would likely put more strain on the pins than the nanos. For a time, I considered mounting the dock/nano right in front of the cluster display, which I don't use much anyway. Not as safe for accident purposes though. Mine resides in the "ashtray" / iPod holder.

Cheers,

Rich

Is there a power option on the back of that?
