Or would a set of wire cutters/dykes work?

Default Don't need to do anything, just use them. Use the indentations to grab the locking tabs and push

them in.

They are typically a little fat, so you may need to work the head unit up a little...

Good luck.

Default wire cutters will probably work. sheetmetal scissors would probably be even better

use concrete to file down the edges so they don't scratch anything.

Default that metal is fairly soft...and bent under pressure while pulling the radio out.

i sprung for a real set with finger rings on the end. works so much better and assures for a clean removal.

Default file folder things are okay for a couple uses

It's crude, but it works in a pinch. (Like in the middle of the night, when nothing is open, but you have the urge to tinker.)

Just make sure you have a good notch at the base of the "blade" -- the notch is what catches on the latches inside and give you the ability to pull the radio with the keys. My radio was in fairly tight, so I had to use pliers on the file folder thingys to get enough grip while pulling. The blade part of the key should be nice and long, less than 30 degrees, maybe 3/4" long for it to slide well. Don't worry, there's a lot of room to shove them in.

If you're going to be pulling more than a couple times, buying a cheap tool is probably best.
