Default Control Arm Issues with 2000-2006 TT? Exploring Possible Lawsuit

If you own a 2000-2006 TT (any model) and have EVER had a defective control arm or control arm bushing causing the wheel to become "compromised" or just plain fall off (like me), please post here.

I am not a lawyer but I had a meeting with one yesterday. I explained my situation and told him I know of two other TT owners who this happened to. He was very curious about this and said if enough people have had this happen, he will explore the POSSIBILITY of a class action lawsuit.

I'm not into suing people, but when you're driving a $36,000 car and the wheel falls off while you're driving, you get a little freaked out. Luckily, I was going 10 mph. If I was on the expressway, I wouldn't be here to make this post.

I'm not familiar with this problem, could you explain what failed so I can look for it?

Default You mean the recall for the rear arm breakage?

Maybe it was never done on your car or maybe you were out of the Vin range. There have been a few failures and I mean VERY few reported here that were out of the known failure range This was caused by corrosion seizing up the joint and eventually flexing and breaking the arm. Chitown is a corrosive envoirnment. What year is your car?

Unlike the high frequecy of Cluster failure this hardly seems like a Class Action issue..

I'm not a mechanic (and maybe someone on this board can explain this in a more technical way), but there's a control arm bushing (it's a very cheap piece) that could dry out (happened to me twice) and restrict the motion of the control arm, so when a bump is hit the control arm could snap b/c it can't move with the bumps.

If the bushing is dried out, you would hear the sound as if two balloons were being rubbed together when you go over bumps. I heard it most when I would go over speed bumps slowly.

My TT had 44,000 miles on it when it happened. This was last year. I have a 2000 TTQ.

Schwing - I didn't hear about this (which is why I started my inquiry on this board).

Do you have more info on this? I was mailed the instrument cluster recall so I am getting that kind of thing, but I never received a recall about the rear arm, which is the one that broke on my car. How long ago did it occur?

Default This goes WAY back......>

to 2001 I think. It's a matter of record and was an official NHTSA recall I believe....A search of the recall archives oughta bring it up, or your dealer would certainly have the information. I take it you are not the first owner...

Some dealers have played hardball on cars out of the known VIN range though...SparTan had this issue and (coincidentally) he's from the Chicago area too...

I bought my 2000 TT from a dealer in Chicago in 2002. Before I could drive it off the lot, they put the "newer suspension" on the car along with the rear fin, due to a recall. I think it was called the MKII suspension, if I'm correct.

Is this the recall you're thinking of?

Awesome. I'll check it out. Thanks!

I'll let my friend know. He was going to do some research today as well, but it looks like I can save him some time!

Thanks a bunch.
