2nd and 3rd gear syncros.........R.I.P.
Like any good TT forum member, I put in the Redline MT-90 at about 50k, hoping for a miracle, which did not happen (helped a little, definitely better than stock fluid), and have basically been gently making that shift for about the last 50k miles.
From the quick phone pic here, you can get a glimpse of the carnage going on right now, that's a shiny new South Bend clutch and flywheel in place, and the rest of the trans is sitting off on a rack. The 2nd and 3rd syncros were in fact toast, and while I would have definitely preferred to have this done under warranty, well, the timing didn't work out that way. FWIW, my $.02 is that transmissions are Audis' weakest (non-electrical) parts.
So, just an FYI for other proud owners of delinquent 2nd-3rd grinders, yours are probably toast as well, but when it's time to surgerize the clutch, when you're already 10 hours' labor deep, might as well spend a few more hours and replace those syncros, they're not getting better by themselves.
Some Motul gear oil going in this time, will give a bit of a review on that in time.
Ahh....carnage!

2nd-3rd gear grind was my same problem, which first occurred around 25K miles and got progressively worse. Took until about 42K to convince the dealer that there was actually a problem.
