More cooling data: Car is running at 95C. Ambient is 72F.
Needle is straight up, of course.
Car history:
85k currently.
Temp sender replaced with 059919501A (Green top?) 8/04 at 55k miles.
Timing belt, water pump, coolant flush in 2/05 with 62k miles. I think he used a plastic impeller pump. This is also when I started tracking the car. If I think back, I *think* I first noted elevated temps on the track in summer 05.
OEM Thermostat replacement 1/07.
Last Sunday, the needle didn't go up when the ambient temp was 60-68 deg F. Once the ambient temp rose above 70, then I noticed the temp wandering up a notch for part of each lap. After the ambient was above 75, the gauge was staying near 1 notch up.
Is it possible I just have a bad temp sensor?
There are subtle differences with each car, and your numbers do not look high to me...some 180's run a bit cooler...but not much.
If it is running good....i would leave it alone....you are not gonna overheat the car at the track. Remember, as you collect more data, it may "appear" to be a problem, but it is actually normal....i call it the TMI syndrome...;-)
