Default can someone help me identify this tube?

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/86540/img_7156.jpg"></center><p>Anyone know what this tube is used for? One end is attached to a braided hose at the bottom of the black round plastic thing in the picture and the end with the rubber tip I have no idea where it goes. In a failed attempt to replace the CTS, I had to moved wire clusters out of the way. As I gave up and started putting everything back in place, I noticed this tube hang or actually pointing up with the rubber end not attached to anything. I was able to start the engine and it ran fine but that was only for a few seconds. I don't want to start driving it tomorrow and have something fail on me because this tube is not in it's proper position. Any help would be appreciated!

are you talking about the vacuum pump for the manifold?

Default That probably hooks to a vacuum source on the engine itself. Start by looking at the intake manifold

for a nipple with no hose. That looks like it probably has to do with cold start emissions stuff. You probably wouldn't have a running issue but might throw a code.

Default Just did a little quick reading

If that tube is going to that black round canister type thing then that is the vacuum signal tube for the variable intake solenoid. I was wrong about it being for cold start, apparently is is for tuning power delivery and optimizing fuel efficiency.
So you still should look around the block for a vacuum source but if you don't hook it up, you might not run as well as usual and probably will throw a code.

You should break anything but you do want to find the vacuum source for that sucker.

Default well...searched again this morning and couldn't find where it goes

It's only a 5-6 inch hose so I searched a 6 inch radius from the vacuum pump looking for an outlet to plug it into...but nothing. I took a quick drive with the hose disconnected and it didn't seem like it had any effect. I guess I'll be ordering my Bentley manual today. Hopefully nothing will break in the next 4-5 days until it gets here. I hope when I get the manual, I'll be able to help someone else on the forum.
